New Riff Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey: Review

Snapseed (2)

50% alcohol/Vol 100 Proof

Whiskey aficionados are always excited to try new juices, but we were more excited about this one because it comes from the same people responsible for the OKI bottles that have been so coveted. However, this whiskey is only four years old and we had to have a friend from Kentucky deliver it.  As far as we know it hasn’t been available in our state yet.  The bottle price was $35, so that made it easier to take a chance on.

Eye

The appearance is a light copper, but can be deceiving because of the gradient on the bottle.

Nose

The nose is not deep, but light scents of butterscotch, cinnamon, and rye.

Mouth

The initial flavors are black pepper, citrus, and caramel (which is faint and lacking sweetness).  The finish is long and hot with just a trace of more caramel.   This is a baby 4-year-old that shows a lot of promise. It won’t become your daily drinker, but you’ll want to say you tried it before it became something special once they grow up to 8 or 12 years.
