45% alcohol/Vol 90 Proof, Virginia Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Bowman Brothers isn’t distributed in Arkansas, so last time I was in Kentucky I picked up my first bottle. Coming from Virginia, the A. Smith Bowman Distillery, it was founded the day after prohibition ended. After seeing some of their limited-edition bottles being so coveted online, I thought tasting what the base product was like would be the best start. I also really like the bottles distinct shape and how it was easily identifiable on the shelf. The $35 price also made it pretty accessible.
Nose
Soft and subtle, with scents brown sugar, flowers and oak.
Eye
The appearance is light copper with medium legs.
Mouth
The initial tasting notes are nuts, vanilla, toffee all toasted in a barrel. The finish is medium, dry, and sweet. As a first introduction, I really enjoyed this Small Batch. I’ll be on the lookout for some of their more limited products.
