Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey: Review

FullSizeRender (5)

45% alcohol/Vol 90 Proof

This is the first time for me to try this bottle.  I’m a wheater, as in I typically really enjoy wheated bourbons, but this isn’t a bourbon with a high wheat ratio in the blend, but less than 50%—it is a full on wheat whiskey with more than 50%.  Coming from Heaven Hill, I was excited to give this a try.  It’s a small batch, seven-year-old whiskey, which typically falls in my sweet spot.

Nose

The nose is wonderful and welcoming with notes of honey, vanilla, blooming fruit trees, and pound cake.  It smells sweet, warm, and inviting.

Eye

The appearance is copper honey with long thick legs.

Mouth

The initial tasting notes are toffee, crème brulee, brown sugar, and orange bitters.  The finish is medium and sweet with lingering smoked cherries.  This bottle is $27, so if you’re a wheater fan, this is an easy grab and a wonderful pour.
